Major Utility Installation Near the River Tromie

One of our recent projects near the River Tromie involved a significant programme of trenching and the installation of multiple essential services.

The Project

The project required the installation of water, fibre, sewer and electrical infrastructure, with the longest trench extending for approximately 1 kilometre.

Careful planning was particularly important, as several different services needed to share the same trench while being installed correctly and safely.

Our Process

1. 1km Water & Fibre Installation

The longest section of the project involved excavating approximately 1km of trench for the installation of water services and fibre ducting.

Draw boxes were installed at approximately 100m intervals along the fibre route, providing suitable access points and helping to make future installation and maintenance more straightforward.
 

2. Pumped Sewer & Septic Tank Power

Approximately 400 metres of pumped sewer pipework was installed, together with around 400 metres of power ducting serving the septic tank.

With substantial distances involved, accurate levels, positioning and careful installation were essential throughout the works.
 

3. SSE Main Power Cable

The project also incorporated approximately 300 metres of SSE main power cable, adding another service to an already extensive underground infrastructure installation.

Where possible, the services were installed within the same trench, reducing the amount of excavation required and minimising unnecessary disruption to the surrounding ground.
 

4. Protection & Reinstatement

Installing the services is only one part of the job. Each service was correctly positioned within the trench before being sanded and warning-taped, providing protection and clear identification underground.

Once installation was complete, the trenches could then be backfilled and the ground reinstated.

Working in the Highland Landscape

The location close to the River Tromie meant working carefully within a beautiful Highland environment.
