Caledon Contractors are Award Winners! Construction Groundwork Contractors of the Year - Scotland (Highlands)

We’re delighted to finally share some news we’ve been keeping under wraps: Caledon Contractors has been named Construction Groundwork Contractors of the Year – Scotland (Highlands) in the Scotland Prestige Awards 2026/27.

After recently teasing that we had an exciting announcement coming, it feels fantastic to be able to reveal what it was — and we’re incredibly proud of the recognition.

Recognition That Means Something to Us

Awards are always lovely to receive, but what makes this one particularly special is why Caledon Contractors was selected.

As part of the judging process, the Prestige Awards team reviewed case studies from our projects alongside feedback from our clients.

The judges told us they were impressed by the passion we have for what we do and by our ability to tailor our services around the individual needs and budgets of our clients.

They also highlighted the feedback they had seen describing Caledon Contractors as professional and skilled, with excellent communication from the beginning of a project right through to completion.

Perhaps one of the nicest comments was that, while feedback within the construction industry can sometimes be mixed, they were struck by just how consistently positive the feedback about our work had been.

For us, that is probably the most rewarding part of winning this award.

More Than Just Groundworks

Although the award recognises our work as groundwork contractors, the projects we undertake across the Highlands and Isle of Skye are incredibly varied.

Our work includes everything from foundations and site preparation for new homes to drainage, septic tanks and treatment systems, roads and access tracks, driveways, landscaping, demolition and complete groundwork packages for self-build projects.

And sometimes we’re asked to find solutions to much more unusual challenges.

One recent example has been the construction of a one-kilometre floating road in the Cairngorms National Park, built across deep peat using a combination of traditional construction principles and modern, environmentally responsible techniques.

Projects like this demonstrate something that has always been important to us: there isn’t one standard solution that works everywhere.

The Highlands presents some unique construction challenges — difficult terrain, remote locations, peat, drainage, weather and sensitive landscapes among them — and good groundwork is about understanding the site before deciding how best to build on it.

Built Around the Client

One aspect of the judges’ feedback that particularly resonated with us was their recognition that we tailor what we do around our clients.

Whether we’re working with someone embarking on their first self-build, a landowner who needs a new access road, or a client with a complex project on challenging terrain, we believe the starting point should always be the same: listen to what they actually need.

That includes understanding their ambitions, the practical demands of the site and, importantly, their budget.

It’s not about applying the biggest or most expensive solution. It’s about finding the right solution for that particular project.

Winning Construction Groundwork Contractors of the Year – Scotland (Highlands) isn’t simply recognition of the finished projects people see.

It represents the planning, problem-solving, early mornings, challenging Highland weather, skilled machine work and attention to detail that happen behind the scenes on every job.

So this award belongs to the whole Caledon Contractors team.
